Play With Your Food if it Makes You Happy

Oatmeal Happy Face

There were times when I did not have enough money to buy the foods that I really wanted to eat. I am sure we have all struggled with that at one point in our lives. This oatmeal for instance should have additions like sunflower seeds, coconut, almonds, pepitas, and maybe even some chocolate chips if I promise myself to take a walk after I eat it. In these times of struggle, I had to suffer through with what you see above. Plain.

That is why when I do have to serve myself a spread of depressing food given to me by the game of life, I play with it. It makes me happy. I like that. Plus, look at that smile. I wonder what would have happened if you, the reader, had gone your whole life without seeing this smiling oatmeal creature. You would be oblivious to its existence. Would you still be the same? I am guessing you would, but I certainly hope not. It should be burned in your memory by now. Look at that cute little nose. Damn.

Here is another photo of food that I have made for myself. Let's see the difference.

Falafel Salad

Wow! I should open a restaurant or something. It is so beautiful. As you can see, this falafel salad that I made from scratch does not need any playing with at all. It is complete and now ready for my mouth just like the oatmeal creature above. I have already played with it by making it look delicious to my eyes.

Both photos accomplish the same thing in my opinion. They both make me happy right before I am going to eat them. That is what we really want when we are eating right? We want it to make us happy.

So play with your food in any way that you can. Appreciate it for a few seconds and make sure it puts a smile on your face before you shove it into your mouth. Go ahead and take a picture of it. You are going to look weird to a lot of people, but there are many of us who will understand.

You can also wait until you are done eating or in the middle of eating to play with what is left of your food. Like this example.

Grape Seeds on Plate

I had just finished off a peanut butter sandwich and some grapes. These grapes really pissed me off when I got home from the store because I noticed they had seeds in them. How can I have been so unaware of this fact at the time of purchase? Grapes with seeds are way too much work, but I thought I would use them to my advantage in this case. I felt like the grass was an excellent backdrop. Now that it has been documented I can enjoy the smile this food put on my face anytime I see this picture.

So, the next time you put a plate of food in front of you, make sure you find a way for it to make you happy. Smile then eat.

Peace and Love.
